ABOUT ME

I'm Associate Professor of Molecular Biology, Deputy of the Head of the Department of Medicine for Research and head of the School of Biotechnology at the University of Udine, Italy.

My field of interest is the study of molecular mechanisms of gene expression particularly in the field of chemical reactions known as redox signalling and cell oxidative stress. Now, I'm focusing on some aspects linking the gene expression process by which genetic instructions are used to synthesize gene products and the repair of the damages in the genome, which are relevant in molecular oncology and cancer. I authored more than 150 publications in international peer reviewed journals and more than 70 international congress communications concerning control of gene expression during response to oxidative stress.

MEET THE TEAM

Dr. Giulia Antoniali

Giulia Antoniali has a Bachelor’s degree in Computational Biotechnology, Master's degree in Medical Biotechnology and a PhD in Biomedical Science and Biotechnology obtained at University of Udine (Italy) under the supervision of Professor Tell. Since then, she is working as a postdoc on the non canonical roles of Ape1. At the present, her research deals with the understanding of APE1 role in RNA metabolism as a new unexplored field with essential function in tumor biology and cancer resistance.

Dr. Marta Codrich

Marta Codrich has a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and a Master's degree in Medical Biotechnology. She obtained her PhD in Functional and Structural Genomics at SISSA in Trieste (Italy) under the supervision of Professor Gustincich. In the same lab she stayed as a postdoc working on the role of hemoglobin in dopaminergic neurons. In 2017, she joined the lab of Professor Tell as a postdoc working on intestinal organoids.

Dr. Silvia Burra

Silvia Burra is a PhD student in Biomedical Science and Biotechnology program at University of Udine. She has a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology and a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Biotecnology. She is working on the role of Ape1 in the telomeric maintenance.

Dr. Matilde Clarissa Malfatti

Matilde Clarissa Malfatti has a Bachelor’s degree and a Master's degree in Medical Biotechnology. She obtained her PhD in Biomedical Science and Biotechnology at University of Udine (Italy) under the supervision of Professor Tell. She has continued to work in the same lab as postdoc focusing on the repair mechanism of modified ribonucleotides embedded in DNA.

Dr. Giovanna Mangiapane

Giovanna Mangiapane has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. After the graduation studies, she worked on breast cancer in the lab of Professor Sala at Brunel University in London. In 2017 she joined the lab of Professor Tell as a PhD student in Biomedical Science and Biotechnology program at University of Udine. She is working on the role of Ape1 in miRNA processing.
